About AP

Academic Planning (AP) unit of the Directorate of Institutional Research and Academic Planning (DIRAP) is given the mandate to ensure appropriate realisation of the university’s vision, mission and strategic objectives in relation to academic planning and quality assurance (APQA).

The roles and responsibilities of the unit include establishing and maintaining the quality management system (QMS) to promote high quality standards and best academic practices that can guarantee appropriate delivery of the academic project.

AP Functions

In discharging its functions, AP establishes and facilitates implementation of the relevant:

  • APQA systems
  • Frameworks
  • Policies
  • Guidelines

All related to teaching and learning, research, community engagement, and associated support services.

What We Do

Internal Quality Assurance

Quality Reviews of Academic Departments, support units and academic programmes.

External Quality Assurance

Peer quality reviews and institutional audits facilitated by the CHE and other relevant external authorities, where applicable/required.

Programmes Development

Evaluation of proposals for introducing new and modifying existing academic programmes in support of the university’s strategic intent of continual expansion and review of the Programme Qualification Mix (PQM).

Teaching Evaluations

Strategic planning support, including the development of the UFS institutional strategy and Annual Performance Plans submitted to the DHET.
