AP facilitates periodic quality reviews of academic departments, support units and academic programmes for purposes of monitoring and maintaining academic standards and other relevant best practices.
For academic departments/programmes, periodic quality reviews become instrumental in promoting the quality of teaching and learning, determining the direction for curriculum renewal and improvement for relevance and currency.
The reviews also inform further developments in relation to research, community engagement and other academic activities. The quality reviews are conducted on five-year cycle basis.
A four-phases process is followed to facilitate quality reviews, which involves, participation in self-evaluation and development of a portfolio of evidence, followed by peer review by external experts.
Upon receipt of the report from the external peer reviewers, the department/unit under review develops quality improvement plan (QIP) based on the recommendations of the external quality reviewers.
The implementation of the QIP monitored under the overseeing of the relevant faculty structures and the Academic Committee of Senate up to the completion of the implementation of all determined/planned improvements and/or enhancements.
AP also facilitates the development and implementation of tools for monitoring of the quality of teaching and learning, including students’ surveys for evaluation of teaching. The teaching evaluations predominantly take place once a semester per module.
